In Mexico children's day (dia del niño) is big, maybe bigger than mother's day or father's day. When I was a kid this is a day I didn't know existed but always dreamed about! Toys and candy and...well that's about it, but as a kid what else do you need? It's obvious here that Dia del Niño is important to adults and kids alike. As Aletheia Tuxtla one of our goals is to help people in the community who don't have the resources and advantages that others have. Abby worked very hard to set-up and organize the opportunity for us to visit a small school, which was really a small shack on the outskirts of San Cristobal.
The afternoon got off to a slow start but as we began to play some games and hand out the bags of candy our team had put together more and more kids from the community began to filter in. Our friend Grisel was able to get a stack of christian magazines designed for children from her church. Along with those and the candy we also gave several playground balls and games to the school for everyone to share. When all was said and done we served about 60 children! Our friend Gonzalo made a short video from the photos we had, we hope you enjoy it.
