Happy 2010 to everyone! Arriving back in Tuxtla last Sunday had the feeling of stepping through a wardrobe into a different world. The below freezing temperatures, snow and ice of Virginia felt more like a different world than a different country. Here in Tuxtla the sun is warm, there are leaves on the trees and the palms set against the blue sky give the impression that the beach is just a few blocks away (even though it's not). For me, during the first few days of our return, I felt this was the right place for me to be and the right time. Those were the first few days. Eventually the reality set in, a huge task of reaching and mobilizing university students to form a church and reach their classmates and families. The language barrier. The absence of "home cooked" meals by mothers and grandmothers. The friends and family still in Virginia. Our townhouse still draining our savings...
Yesterday we had our first church service of the new year. While we didn't have a huge turnout...we did have a great time of worship, fellowship, and learning from God's word. Praise God!
All this to say that serving our Lord Jesus is not easy but is very rewarding when we see Him working in the lives of people that a few months ago didn't know Him! We press on. I ask for your prayers for us and the ministry here. I ask your prayers for our house to sell. It has been on the market since July 2008. We are trusting in God's provision and pray that we can soon be freed from this financial burden.
