Have you ever you anticipated something for so long that when it finally happens you have a hard time believing it's true? Well after more than a year of thinking about and praying for Tuxtla Gutierrez in Chiapas, Mexico Abby and I have finally arrived! We cruised into town on Wednesday afternoon the 17th and still I am excited every time I see a sign that reads "Tuxtla Gutierrez".
Although it is smaller in population, this city doesn't have the same tranquil and historical feel of Queretaro but is nice all the same with lots of modern buildings and stores. Steve and Laura graciously traveled here with us and we spent the first two full days looking at apartments and houses. We also had the pleasure of meeting Victor, Letty and their adorable 3 year old daughter Fernanda, who will be our main contacts here. Along with Letty and Laura we looked at about 15 places in 2 days and found a great apartment in a great location that we should be moving into by the end of the week! Let me correct myself, we didn't find the apartment as much as God led us to it while I was driving in circles trying to find a different place. Another reminder that it is not us who are in control but our awesome Father in Heaven who is really calling the shots!
We traded the dry airid landscape of Queretaro for the lush green mountains of Chiapas. Nearby is Canyon Sumidero and just a few hours further northeast are the impressive ruins of Palenque. We have explored a few of the university campuses here and are excited about getting settled in and beginning our ministry among the students of Tuxtla. Please continue to pray that God will lead us and more so that we will follow Him faithfully where ever He leads.
We hope to post pictures as soon as we find our camera cord which is buried somewhere in our junk : )
Blessings,
Mark and Abby
